We were at the Merrie Monarch Festival, were you?
|Our display at Sangha Hall for the Merrie Monarch Festival|
For April 12-14, we were at Sangha Hall for the Merrie Monarch Festival. What is the Merrie Monarch Festival? It is a week-long cultural festival that takes place annually in Hilo here on the Big Island. It honors King David Kalakaua, who was called the "Merrie Monarch" for his patronage of the arts. He is credited with restoring many Hawaiian cultural traditions during his reign, including the hula. Many halau hula (schools), including some from the U.S. mainland and Japan, attend the festival each year to participate in the festival exhibitions and competitions, which are considered the most prestigious of all hula contests.
I had an absolute blast meeting people from all over! I could talk with new people all day long. I do need to brush up on my Japanese as there are many visitors from there for this event. What a beautiful language!
I had many of our new products there for people to try, including our bamboo lotion and our plumeria lotion. I brought our reformulated sugar scrubs and nearly sold out of them! I also brought a few clay masks and have already had emails from happy customers! I need to do a treatment on myself ;) What was our best seller? Definitely our Soothing Salve. I sold so many that I was sold out of them by the second day. Many people have eczema, cracked heels, or abused cuticles that will benefit greatly from our Shaka Soothe.
On another note, guess who is receiving Shaka Soap products next?
|Mr. Ryan Gosling|
We were selected this weekend to send personalized gifts to Ryan Gosling and I already know exactly what I am going to send him. I recently made a "kane" soap. Kane is the Hawaiian word for 'man.' It is scented to smell like a nice cologne and has calendula petals in the soap for a gentle scrubbing action. Click here to see the soap we are gifting him. We are also going to include our Naked lip balm to keep his pucker nice and soft! We only have 8 bars of the Kane soap, so get yours while you can. Father's Day is coming.....
Next big event for Shaka Soap is the MTV Movie Awards, so I will be posting on that as we get all 100 (yes, 100!) gifts ready to ship out!
Mahalo and Hang Loose ;)
